Jack Brooks Park

I went to Bacliff on Friday and had a good time there. Friday we got in late and didn't do much. But Saturday I went with my brother to Jack Brooks Park in Texas City. We were going to mountain bike. The trails are very wooded, brushy, and flat at first impression. Then we went to an area where they actually got trails with contours and to an extent where you actually have to be careful. I don't quite know how to describe it. It's dirt with roots above the ground everywhere and hills and gullies and tractioned narrow bridges. But the hills are small and the gullies small, but in mountain bike riding terms, they are large, at least form my limited experience. For that matter my experience is pretty much limited to riding on rock that's flat and roads. I was having a great time, a little cautious, because it was the first time I did something like that. I think the biggest danger is slipping on the roots. Fortunately I didn't fall anywhere, but I wasn't pushing very hard. We were just getting going pretty good and I was pedaling hard up one of the hills, when my back wheel slipped and started grinding against the bar. I couldn't pedal anymore. I didn't have a wrench to fix it, so we had to lead our bikes back about a mile to the car. That was disappointing. It whet my appetite for mountain bike riding and ended too soon. It makes me want to get a good bike. The one I got now was free. My friend didn't want it anymore, so I got it.
