I thought it was very interesting to see/ hear the Mayoral candidates speak unscripted. Passion, which is something that is needed, sadly turned into disrespect. I was impressed by the candidates who stayed out of the mud, though if you listen closely it was only the people who were not previously on council or Mayor who took the highest ground. Perhaps it is because they received less attention or have less history, I am not sure.
Kristi and Ken even though they slipped a little went nowhere near Ted and Nick. It was very interesting to watch certain traits once again reemerge. Hearing Ted telling Kristi to sit down was interesting. Could this be what has been referred to as Ted’s leadership style, perhaps? I am afraid it made me think that it is hard for a leopard to change its spots. Nicks comments of loving the debate due to his background as a trial lawyer are understandable but I think he is smart enough to learn to adapt a new style if he was successful. Having said that though we are all creatures of habit.
I would prefer to have a representative who can keep a cool head. I think most people agree with the old adage of honey over vinegar.
Let’s not forget that as Mayor this individual will be representing us and our town on their own or in front of the world. I would prefer to have a Mayor who shows respect and therefore is respected!

For Mayor, I'm uneasy about the divisiveness and the un-spoken intentions of both of the 'front runners'. I'll be voting for Kristi Wells to lead our new council team forward. For the fourteen years that I've followed her career, she has consistently overcome the derogatory stereotypes and exceeded most people's expectations, all with a professional composure that Whistler can be proud of. Kristi may appear to be 'a rose' amongst a bush of thorns, but she is just as skilled and capable as the matador in a ring of bulls.
