Offline Regarding a cultural added economic presence for Whistler, similar to the Banff Art and Music School, a number of educational venues (with dorm facilities)could be invited to locate in Whistler.San Miguel in northern mexico is another example of an international Art-based teaching and artist hosting community.

Whistler already has the cachet to attract both international quality artists as instructors, as well as international students. An art-music-drama facility would benefit every other aspect of Whistler as well, and as 'made in Whistler' art and music achieves international renown, the name Whistler will become known as a destination for more than recreation. regards, EH Millyard

Arts and culture have a tremendous potential to provide a stabilizing shoulder season program for locals and visitors alike. We need to actively support this side of our community so that we can become world renowned for this as well as sports.

Simply put Arts is the future of tourism. Generally arts tourist fit the same income profile as ski enthusiasts (their average annual household incomes are over 65K) The Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) reports that Arts tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors of the tourism economy. The CTC also estimates that there are over two million Wine & Culinary Enthusiasts, 1.3 million Performing Arts enthusiasts and 2.1 million Visual Arts enthusiasts. This is also only for Canadian arts enthusiasts. Pursuing an arts tourism agenda provides insulation from the cooling international tourism trade.

I find it unfortunate that a such a great candidate for council (Bob L) would so blatently score down the importance of the Arts Council in Whistler. Speaking poorly in public about the monetary demands of the arts in Whistler - and in such a negative tone! Does he not believe this is an important part of our future? Our community? I was very dissapointed to hear this said allowed to our public and so close to the election. I had belived he was a great supporter. Arts, culture, history... all so important in building and growing a strong community. And so close to the election Bob. We are dissapointed. (members of the arts community)

I agree with bob he is a supporter of the arts in many ways. Listen to the tapes or better yet talk to him. Myself I have had my differences with the arts council, many of my artist friends also have issues with them. Not enough artist representation there, not enough public input, corporate board members, input and goals? I think someone like bob would help to listen to the artists and the public.
