| Non-smoking break |

| Dale and Martin asked me to go on their smoking break with them. I don't smoke and they know that. So I was surprised when they asked me. I used to take five-minute breaks on the patio, and both the smokers and the non-smokers hated me for it. The non-smokers glowered at me as if to murmur: what makes you think you get a break? And the smokers disassociated from me as if to say: if you aren't smoking, go back inside with the goody-two-shoes. So this was new for me. I didn't smoke. I did tell the joke about the woman at the plastic surgeon's making a scene, just for fun: "I SAID BOTOX, NOT BUTTOCKS," she shrilled in a voice loud enough for anyone in the waiting room to overhear, (and hyperventilate about). Dale shook with laughter, and that was reward enough for me. |
